What Is Musculoskeletal Therapy?
Musculoskeletal Therapy is a highly advanced field of assessment and management of pain and movement dysfunction, treating a wide range of conditions. Treatments take a holistic approach assessing and treating joints, muscles, nerves, brain and ranges of motion for short and long-term pain and injury. Treatments may also be used in the rehabilitation of neurological conditions. Musculoskeletal Therapy aims to treat the underlying cause and identify and eliminate contributing factors. It is also a branch of functional medicine and uses evidence-based and modern medicine techniques to achieve the best results in the least amount of time. Musculoskeletal Therapy uses highly advanced techniques such as nerve manipulation, joint manipulation, dry needling, electro-dry needling, transcutaneous Vagus nerve stimulation and Photobiomodulation. Soft tissue work is also utilised when needed and may involve Myofascial cupping.
What to expect?
Initial consultations are generally longer and involve your Musculoskeletal practitioner taking a thorough health history to gain an idea of the factors surrounding your presenting issue. Once this is done you may be required to undertake a variety of orthopaedic assessments to identify the source of pain and the factors predisposing you to the current condition. Your therapist will then undertake treatment (provided it is safe to do so) and does not require further referral. A treatment plan will be put in place to meet goals which are of importance to the patient.
Follow up consultations are generally shorter as what will be the most effective treatment option has already been ascertained. Goals will be set and a combination of treatment and home care which will be prescribed as to have the best chance of meeting the goals set and improving overall health.
